Subaru Forester 2014

The new 2014 Subaru Forester is longer and taller than its predecessor. The Forester competes with the similar models of the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 in the compact crossover field.

Subaru expects sales of its 2014 Forester crossover to increase by about a 3rd this year to 100,000 units with the arrival of a redesigned, slightly larger version by March.

The 2014 Forester will attract more buyers because its highway fuel economy, says U.S. marketing boss Dean Evans at a press preview, "The No. 1 consideration in this segment is fuel economy."

The Forester, which has accounted for about 23 percent of Subaru's U.S. sales, competes in the compact crossover segment against the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4. Subaru sold 76,347 cars in 2012, about the same as a year earlier. While Honda sold 281,652 CR-Vs and Toyota - 171,877 RAV4s.

Price and specifications of 2014 Subaru Forester

At a base price of $22,820, the 2014 Forester with its standard AWD is priced $730 higher than the outgoing model. That is less than the FWD base versions of the CR-V ($23,625), and RAV4 ($24,145). Above-mentioned prices include shipping.

Subaru says it has improved the car's drivability too, "What customers like and want in an SUV is Subaru bones, cheaper and better and more reliable with a low center of gravity, off-road capabilities plus turbo performance," Subaru spokesman Michael McHale said.

At 180.9 in, the new 2014 Forester is 1.4 in longer than the present model. The wheelbase is 0.9 in longer at 103.9 in and is 1.3 in taller at 68.2 in. Subaru improved rear legroom by 3.7 in, done so by scalloping the seatbacks as well as lowering the center tunnel. The front doors were given a 5.3 in wider opening.

New features of Subaru Forester model 2014

New features include a power rear liftgate and X-Mode, which help adjust the suspension for wet and slippery road surfaces.
The 2.5i model carries over Subaru's 170 hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine, but the 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic have been replaced by either a 6-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission. The 2.0XT model of the car has a new 250 hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine.
Subaru's special EyeSight safety technology with active cruise, that debuted on the larger Outback crossover last year, comes as optional on the Forester.
